Lighting Equipment

These are many of the lighting tools that I utilize when photographing weapons. The use of Grids Spots, Snoots and Reflectors give me the ability to shape and control light. This is the key when you want to create images that are visually striking and look as is if they are three dimensional!

Photogenic Powerlight 1250DRC
Photogenic Powerlights PL-1250DR's are my favorite choice for self contained studio lights. I have used many different brands over the years and I strongly feel that these are one of the most versatile.

Remote Control Outfit
Photogenics Remote Control features allow me to make fine adjustments in power and make the changes from camera position. This is extremely valuable when precise lighting is of the essence. I use seven of these Powerlights and use pretty much all of them when photographing rifles and utilize four lights with pistols.

Coarse Grid Spot

Photogenic Coarse Grid Spots give me a larger beam of light that allows me to light larger areas of the weapon. This is ideal when creating specular highlights along leading edges of weapons to create that illuminated sheen. Remember one important fact, lighting control is everything and a key factor when you want your images to have visual impact with the illusion of 3-dimension!

Fine Grid Spot
Photogenic Fine Grid Spots give me a narrower beam of light that allows me to illuminate smaller areas of the weapon. This is ideal for edge lighting of grips and accessories.

Snoot
Snoots are utilized for illuminating the very small areas of weapons. I control the illumination circle by varying the distance of the light source to weapon. In many cases, these are positioned approximately 24"-36" from the weapon.
